Mac Danzig is one of 16 welterweight fighters competing for a UFC contract on Spike TV’s reality series “The Ultimate Fighter 6″ this season.

Danzig has fought at 155 pounds for most of his career, capturing titles in King of the Cage, Gladiator Challenge and the IFC. He is stepping up to 170 pounds for the opportunity to fight in the TUF 6 competition and to make it in the big show.

Danzig has been posting a weekly blog for ocregister.com, taking readers along for the ride as he trains lives and fights the other TUF 6 contestants.

TUF 6 airs on Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on Spike TV, and Danzig’s blog will post immediately following each episode.

EPISODE 11

To all my wonderful readers: Sorry if this one is short, but I’m concentrating on full time training and honestly, there’s not really much to say about it. Oh yeah, if I seem like a smart-ass jerk at times, maybe I am, but keep in mind, I’m trying to make this blog entertaining, so here goes

Well, this episode (entitled “Upper Decker”) revolves almost entirely around the Saunders vs Speer fight, and the toilet incident. Great, episode, eh?

Somehow, in the fight recaps, Richie is again praised for not getting destroyed as bad as everyone expected, disregarding the fact that George had a virtually no-win situation on his hands fighting someone four to five levels below him. It’s like a professional chess player playing against a toddler with an extra chromosome, and when the toddler takes a pawn before losing, everyone praises him for it. In that case: Great job, Richie! You are an inspiration to us all.

Richie would make one hell of a great T-Ball player.

The toilet incident: Up until this point, none of these guys (War, Richie, Troy) really had shown that much blatant disrespect to anybody. We were about one week away from going home when this happened and I was not in the mood for that kind of nonsense.

There really isn’t much to say about it. Richie wasn’t going to get up when I walked towards him. He was hammered and decided to play a fake role of “I’m gonna sit here and laugh, it’s no big deal.” He knew people would hold me back and he wanted no part of it. This guy is hilarious. He says that “my bark is louder than my bite.” I have to laugh at that. This is coming from a guy who submitted by whining like a little girl into George’s anal cavity while kicking his feet like Fay Wray in “King Kong.”

When Billy told me about their little prank, I just told myself; “Don’t do anything that will get you kicked off the show.” And I didn’t. I can understand a lot of pranks out there, but that was pretty nasty. On top of that, a prank should be played on someone who you’re friends with, not your enemies. Otherwise, it’s the difference between something that is silly and laughable, and something that causes huge problems.

I was in my closet thinking about how I should handle the situation when I heard J-Roc kick the door down. I then heard some yelling and I ran out there because I assumed that we were fighting. Once I got to the room, it was just a bunch of guys yelling and holding each other back and basically trampling Bowman who had fallen to the floor in a valiant one-legged attempt at breaking the squabble up.

I don’t know the whole situation sucked because I don’t associate myself with people who do stuff like this and here I was, forced to be around them. But that’s the formula for the show and that’s what I signed up for, right?

I told them to clean it up, they did, and I wasn’t trying to have anything to do with them anymore.

The fight between Tommy and Ben was pretty boring with the exception of Tommy’s no-quit attitude during the arm bar. I have to admit, that was in really deep. Tommy won’t tap. That’s all there is to it. He’s tough as hell and it’s from his upbringing. If someone is going to beat the guy, it’s gonna have to be with technique and precision. You can’t let the guy hold you down and grind you out. Easier said than done, as we saw here.

Stay tuned for next episode, people. This whole experience is almost finally over and I couldn’t be happier.

  1. mac is beast Says:

    hello mac .

  2. Truth Says:

You are a sad little bully Mac, grow up.

  3. Tom Says:

I thought tommy was done for sure. that is a seriously tough guy. richie hightower is garbage, that is so pathetic how the three members from team hughs are staying home drinking and not going to practice. you’re the man mac, i hope you win it all.

  4. pitbull333 Says:

i am so pissed i missed the episode!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! life sucks. Mac, you had some pretty damn funny points in this weeks feedback. Good job.

  5. MyndJack Says:

    Hey Mac,

I wanted to see you smash Richie’s nose so bad. It sucks that the only time you two would ever fight (since he’ll never be close to your level) is in the house. Of course, if that happened it’d cost you the competition. Can’t wait to see you win this thing & start headlining some pay-per-view events.

  6. TheTruth534 Says:

MAC YOUR THE MAN DUDE. IM PISSED THIS WHOLE WEEK THO BECAUSE YOU AND TOMMY BETTER NOT BE THE ONES WHO CANT FIGHT. IM HOPIN ITS YOU 2 IN THE FINALS WHICH TOMMY’S GOOD BUT NOT EXPERIENCED ENOUGH.

  7. Captain Truthful Says:

Great blogs, ignore the baby bitches in your comments. Seems like Hightower has too much time on his hands. Nice to see someone bitch about the junior high mentality of TUF.

That said, veganism is really stupid.

  8. josh Says:

your a bully mac i have never seen a man with so many high flow days. bitch.

  9. Jameson Says:

First off, Richie Hightower is a tool. the kid thinks he can take mac i know for a fact mac would dominate that little whiny 3rd grader. and the upper decker incedent is very poor representation for the sport like mac quoted. and mac alot of people think your a grump or what not i can see your not there to make friends your there to presue your career which richie is there for show the kid needs a good beating anyways mac do the work you do dont let some little puck ass get in the way of your career the kids nobody and mac is to focused on what he does best not to deal with losers like hightower should call himself low tower “and whats up with his hat ” common bro your sponsoring a dirtbike company your peice of crap anywyas mac destroy whats left and take the contract good luck man i got mad respect to you

  10. Sean Eel Says:

It is you that is stupid captain,… not veganism

  11. ryan Says:

richie hightower got his spot on tv like he wanted and he kept quoting “its just you me and space ” well when mac made no space he didnt stand up hes a … little bitch. kids a loser

  12. McA Says:

I was blown away by Tommy’s ability to get out of the arm bar and then the triangle. That was nuts.

    As always, good post. Thanks.

  13. Motorola Joe Says:

You the man Mac! Been rooting for you since episode 1. Take it to Matt (or whoever you fight) and leave it all in the ring, no regrets, then after that you get to punch in Georges face in the finale, that is if he gets by Tommy.

  14. jay stone Says:

Mac, you are about 90% of this season. Perhaps you will return as a coach someday. Your attitude is pretty funny, but your Richie impression is funniest. Great moments in history.

  15. wejomerv Says:

I have enjoyed reading your blog each week.

Hightower is a clown. My 9 year old nephew is more mature than him.

  16. Rob Says:

I’ve read all of your blogs over the course of the show and I’ve enjoyed them, they add an extra dimension to the show. Good luck in the finale against George and hopefully they will bring in more qualified fighters such as yourself to the next TUF.

  17. Kyle R Says:

I love how you said, ‘I told them to clean it up, so they did.’ No one in the house is really scared of you Mac, you’re not as tough as you think.

Also, I love how you went by their room and spit in it, REAL cool, guy.

  18. Pakled Says:

    Mr. Danzig,
First off let me say that you appear to be a very talented MMA fighter and I wish you many more years of success. I do have a few questions though. You seem to complain at the lack of over all maturity in the house an awful lot. However, I have noticed that in a large number of the segments shown you exhibit the same behavior you are complaining about. Examples would be doing you Richie Hightower impersonation, threatening another member of the house for either 1) speaking to you in a disrespectful manner, or 2) moving your bird feeder, and from this episode - spitting on another housemate’s room/floor/bedding. I understand that living in the house with no outside contact can drive a person stir crazy but what I don’t understand is how you can complain about others when you also behave in the same manner. It just seems that a “lead by example” approach would have won you more respect with the majority of MMA fans. Perhaps in the future your relationship skills will be on the same level as your MMA skills. On that day sir you will have my respect.

  19. Dave Says:

Mac, I think you disliked Hightower immediately because of how he looks, maybe he looks like a nerd to you or something. And, probably as well that he’s not a great fighter yet, just annoyed you. Just like you said, playing chess with a “toddler”, it probably dulls the professionals skills … but thats not Hightower’s fault, he’s gotta start somewhere.

Aside from getting drunk, in which case he was bound to behave stupid anyway, he showed a lot of class on the show. Watch his post-fight interview with George, he’s a winner at heart, and he worked hard most of the time.

  20. Savy Says:

Mac, you are a cocky, egotistical, arrogant fighter…I love it!!! It is great to see a fighter who thinks he is the best and tells everyone he is the best, then goes out and proves it. That’s what it is all about, to step into the octagon you have to be that way. Some of the other guys say they are the best but you can tell they have doubts, it doesn’t matter if you are the best or not, you just need to think you are…keep being “mac”!!!

  21. Oklahoma Says:

Keep up the good work, we are all rooting for you in Oklahoma!

  22. Macs the man Says:

    Mac,

You’re truly an inspiration. Blawnox is like 5 mins from me. I def feel for you about your passion for the sport. Some people are on the show for TV time. Good luck the rest. The only thing I disagree with you about is Veganism is dumb and so is … Marriage. Other than that… your the man.

  23. dan Says:

    Mac,
I have enjoyed your all business attitude and your just being above all the garbage attitude. I realize editing and the show producers could could choose to portray any of the cast members in a negative light. As an intelligent person, I am bothered by all the shows obvious encouragement/ prodding of ridiculous behavior. It seems I have read they dont allow much to you all other than alcohol and paint for the obligatory vandalism scenes. The show’s formula is getting old. I wish it was more about individual fighters and their training. I am probably in the minority, I realize.

  24. andyH8 Says:

I love you dude and hope the best for you in the end of this show. I know you will win this (thing). As being a vegan also I know how ignorant and judging people can be and its great to see you not taking any (stuff) from the others. Big ups from Sweden!

  25. Luke Says:

    Mac,
I have been watching the show from the beginning and ever since i seen you fight i picked you to win the whole thing. Don’t worry about what everyone else is saying, because basically, they don’t know what they are talking about. look forward to seeing you win this thing.. lets go mac

  26. Nance Says:

Mac I hope you CRUSH the arrogant George dude. Hurt him for me!

  27. Ryan Says:

Dan- I am with you. The producers want drunken acts of buffoonery on the show, they think that’s what the audience wants to see… but I don’t need a reminder of high school. Maybe they are targetting the high school male audience, but that demographic doesnt have a lot of cash to give to advertisers. I don’t get it. This is the first season I have watched and I am surprised that so many fighters have hardly any fighting experience, and it shows in the quality of the fights. I mean, yeah Tommy is obviously very strong and tough, but at this point in his career the guy has zero skills except wrestling. He was upset he didn’t finish the fight, but he has no skills to finish a fight against anyone that isnt a can. All he can do is make it Ultimate Wrestling, takedowns, plus a few punches/elbows every minute, don’t risk your position at any cost, no major damage done, decision victory due to UFC rules. Eventually he will learn the other aspect of Ultimate Wrestling, grinding your opponent against the cage for 5 minutes. This is the direction the UFC has gone- Ultimate Wrestling, and the signing of Brock Lesnar will only keep that tradition strong. I don’t know why they call it mixed martial arts- its wrestling with occasional elbows and punches. I think its boring. Real wrestling is more exciting, becuz it is more dynamic. This stuff is just about one guy who has better wrestling skills, and who cut more weight, staying on top for 5 minutes and doing nothing to finish the fight, and not risking anything to do it.

I am interested in the training, in the prefight mindset, in the techniques, and those things are glossed over. The producers just want to show drama and people smashing things- maybe that’s what young girls and boys want to see on reality tv shows, but I doubt that most male adults want to see that stuff. Maybe Im wrong, though.

  28. longshanks Says:

I can’t wait to find out the drama on Wednesday…I’ve tried to read spolier forums to find out what the deal is, but everyone has an “inside source” and they all say different things, lol.

Why is veganism “stupid?” Because (when done right) it’s healthy? Because it shows compassion? Please explain. Intelligently, if that’s not asking too much.

  29. Macs the man Says:

It’s called the food chain…. you should try it… if god didn’t want us to eat animals, he wouldn’t have made them so tasty

  30. Chris Says:

mac u are the f****in man u got everything it takes to smash everyone else and u knew it the second u entered the show….ur deff the next ufc show winner…hell even if by some odd miracle u dont theyd be dumb not to offer you a contract ur a beast physically and mentally…..tear it up

  31. Darin Says:

Mac ur a bitch. Your entire attitude towards yourself and the sport is wrong. Why dont you just focus on the fight game and not what everyone else is in the house is doing. You want to talk about someone trying to get camera time, well that’s u chump, always bitchin and complaining, are your levels of estrogene to high were you on ur rag for the entire 6 weeks? Man u keep talking about how good you are and your level of of this and your standup is that, u ain’t shit show me something other then ur gums flapping and ur … attitude. You keep talking about people holding you back in the house against Richie, thats a complete cop out, u knew damn strait that nothing was gonna happen. Anyone can see through ur BS.

    Keep on bitchin hero.

  32. Pro-Loser Says:

    Mac

You are the best fighter in that house atm. Tho, your constant grumps makes you lose every ounce of respect yer mad maa skillz earned ya. Its cool tho, you dont have to like every1. Richie is not that bad man, rlly i too hated that kin purple hair and emo-like haircut. But beside all that he is on fo the few with a more mature mined.

How can u even pick on him man when ur best buddies with that g-a-y dude in teamhughes. Forgot his name, he is so useless, the one that thinks being a clown would allow him to go thru this deal. Man tha guy needs a serious asswhooping.

Gl man, hope to see you in future mma fight.

I have no doubt that even if you dont win TUF:6 …. dana white will still hire you for some fights on ufc, ia m so positive, because ur already in condition of welterwegiths fights. Dana is buisness man, belive me, you will fight in u welter division no matter what.

  33. James Says:

    Mr. Mac~

I have to admit that when I first saw you on TUF, I didn’t like you much. Not sure why. Maybe it was because of the vegan thing and me being a vast right wing extremist. :) I can honestly say that as episodes passed by, I grew to like you the best because of your work ethics and the fact that you do not waiver in your beliefs. I’m even starting to see myself eat less meat. Really though, I see a great future in your career in MMA. Keep up the good work.

    Regards,

    Jim

  34. Jake Says:

Mac, huge fan of the UFC, TUF and urself. as soon as i saw episode one i picked you to win. since then ive looked up ur record, fights and interviews or blogs and somehow u’ve worked urself onto my favorite fighter list. anyway i sure hope ur not the one gone in the semis and u win this thing. ive always been a small fan of the ufc, but this summer it tooks off and i started training ever since. now im on my road to MMA and hopefuly UFC. Hope ur my trainer in TUF11 or somthingand who knows maby il be fighting you. hopefully…..from ur new biggest fan up in Canada: good luck!

  35. Mac Attack Says:

Just a comment, I think that u shoulda … kicked that loser Ritchie Hightower! I despise that kid! He’s seriously sooo annoying and one of the worst fighters I have EVER seen on the show! I can only hope to one day make it into the UFC and scrap him myself! That would be a fight for the viewers for sure. Me vs. Hightower…I would stomp the … out of him! Good display of discipline on your behalf Mac! I woulda lost it within the first 2 days with that goof!

  36. longshanks Says:

Macs the man - seriously, rather than regurgitating quotes from bumper stickers, explain why you think veganism is “stupid”? Do you have an actual informed opinion about why veganism is not wise, or do you just think that everything that is different from what you do is “stupid”?

  37. NCICHIT Says:

    Hey Mac,
Great post as usual…keep it up dude and remember, you have to be smart to be a smart ass…God bless.

  38. Jess Says:

Mac, you are a great fighter. I will give you that… Based on experience alone, it was clear from day 1 you’d win this season.

But, big deal. TUF isn’t just about finding a good fighter. (Besides, if you were really good, you would get a contract without dealing with the petty jr. high drama TUF is all about right?) TUF about entertainment. And frankly, you whining about your birdfeeder isn’t entertaining. Guys getting drunk and destroying a house? Much more entertaining.

Anyways, get back to training. You have a TUF season to win.

  39. Tim Says:

Mac, I think you’re an oustanding fighter with a great deal of talent but unfortunatley, you’re a blatant bully. There’s a reason Randy Couture has so many fans and this is because the man shows integrity, great character and is obviously an outstanding guy. It is a shame that you complain about how others in the house respresent the sport while at the same time you’re respesentation shows that if you don’t like someone (Hightower) on the basis of how they look you should bully and ridicule them.

You’re a perfect example of what kids should NOT aspire to be and it’s a shame that you represent a sport that you are so obviously passionate about so poorly.

  40. Edward Says:

    Hey,

You’re an excellent, intelligent fighter and I like your blogs.. But I’m not always sure where your hostile attitude comes from. You’ve stressed several times that you get so bored in the house and there’s nothing to do.. So why NOT play and mess about. If you have a bunch of male, energetic fighters locked in one house for weeks, and access to alcohol it’s going to happen- no need to be so puritan about it.

  41. plaidhat Says:

Mac everyone I know is cheering for you… It is so great to see a vegan showing everyone that they can not only survive on a compassionate diet, but thrive. As a vegan that trains in the martial arts myself, I am always looking forward to the next episode… It is a shame that they people that commented negatively on this blog about veganism probably don’t know much about it. And as for Tim, who says that you are an example of what kids should not aspire to, maybe the kids should instead aspire to get drunk, vandalize a house, and deficate in places other than the toilet bowl.

  42. Ney Montenegro Says:

    Mac,
Let me start off by saying congrats on you getting to the finals.
When I began watching this season’s UFC, you looked like an ass and a jerk but like any other reality show “drama” gets ratings and I think you were one of the different pons used to bring ratings to the show.
After viewing how most of these guys fought and seeing how you fought I realized early on the show you may be one of the finalist. I personally think it may have made it a more interesting fight for you to fight George in the finals but you gots to roll with the puches so I wish you the best in the fight agains the farm boy Tommy.

  43. Joe O. Says:

Lots of different views point on Mac Danzig here. Wow.

Unfortunately they are all based on nothing more than several hour log TV shows edited down for entertainment purposes. You think what you saw on that show actually gave you insight into any of those fighters’ true personalities? If so, you are sorely mistaken.

And those few who are calling Mac a bully and a “bitch”.. give me a break. Like I said, that show is edited down from 6 weeks to 12, hour long episodes. You are seeing a fraction of what went on and to judge anyone based on that is mindless. They take the fighters’ worst moments and air them for us. The producers’ and writers’ thinking is “What will get ratings?” not “How can we best portray these fighters’ as who they really are.”.

  44. Bryan Says:

    Mac,
Your blogs are fantastic and i have greatly enjoyed reading them. Have fun out there on Saturday night and walk out as the champ!

  45. garden of the god il Says:

    garden of the god il

I never looked at it that way, but your post makes sense to me thank you very much.
