I've said it before and I'll keep saying it, I love the fights.
I don't like boxing over MMA or MMA over boxing. Why choose between the two if you love the fight game? Why not just appreciate both disciplines and the great fights each sport produces?
There is nothing better than a great fight other than a great movie. So I am combining both to bring you Keep Punching's "Dynamite Dozen: The Greatest Fights in Movie History."
If you feel I have missed a great cinematic fight, feel free to leave your picks in the comments field below.
It's time to present the "Dynamite Dozen."
No. 12 Bruce Lee vs. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (Game of Death/1988): Kareem has all the height and reach advantages, but Bruce Lee systematically breaks him down and eventually chokes him out.
No. 11 Jet Li vs. Police dojo (Kiss of the Dragon/2001): You want to know why Jet Li is the man? Check out how Jet dismantled this entire dojo of dirty cops.
No. 10 Bambi vs. Godzilla (Bambi meets Godzilla/1969): Possibly the most one-sided battle in movie history.
No. 9 Jake LaMotta vs. Wall (Raging Bull/1980): The Wall always wins.
No. 8 Zhang Ziyi vs. Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon/2003): Yeoh throws everything she has at Ziyi and The Green Destiny.
No. 7 Clouseau vs. Cato (Return of the Pink Panther/1975): Clouseau would have never become the brilliant chief inspector he was without his battles against Cato.
No. 6 Rocky Balboa vs. Hulk Hogan (Rocky III/1982): Thunderlips to Philly crowd: "To all my love slaves out there, Thunderlips is here in the flesh baby. The ultimate male vs. the ultimate meatball." That's what I call an intro.
No. 5 Luke vs. Dragline (Cool Hand Luke/1967): Was there anybody cooler than Paul Newman in Cool Hand Luke? No. Newman was the king of cool. Luke was completely overmatched by the huge Dragline, but he kept picking himself off the dirt. Dragline: "Stay down, you're beat." Luke: "You are gonna have to kill me."
No. 4 Rocky Balboa vs. Apollo Creed I (Rocky/1976): Before Apollo helped Rocky beat Clubber Lang, Apollo and Rocky engaged in one of the greatest cinematic fights ever. Check out Rocky delivering the body shots at the end.
No. 3 Beatrix Kiddo vs. Elle Driver (Kill Bill Vol. 2/2004): The chick fight to end all chick fights. Kiddo even gives Driver a swirly in the middle of this fight.
No. 2 Leroy Green vs. Sho'nuff (The Last Dragon/1985): Leroy will never bow down and kiss The Shogun of Harlem's Converse. Leroy ends up becoming a true master and he gets Vanity in the end.
No. 1 Rowdy Roddy Piper vs. Keith David (They Live/1988): This was the ultimate back-and-forth slugfest. Thank God, Keith David didn't just put on the glasses because we would have missed out on one of the greatest fights the silver screen has ever produced.
Gotcha stick with my rassling roots and take Rowdy Roddy in a major decision over the Hulkster
Dan: That's why you the brains of this operation.
Where's John Wayne vs. Victor McLaglen in "The Quiet Man"?
Or Clint Eastwood's fight at the end of "Any Which Way You Can".
"Darker Than Amber," Rod Taylor v. William Smith!
My favorite "fight scene" is the pie fight in The Great Race.
I blew it on Philo Biddoe. Next time.
I'm changing my name to Leroy Green. good job on this list
I know this isn't a movie, but I liked the Family Guy where Stewie beat the living snot out of Brian the dog when Brian didn't pay up on a bet.
Stewie set his dog on fire. That's gnarly.
Stewie is a beast.
Awesome list Los! My two favorites on your list have to be Luke vs. Dragline and LaMotta vs. Wall. I use to have both a Cool Hand Luke and a Raging Bull poster on my wall. Luke is the epitome of gameness and De Niro as LaMotta, come on, how could that not be awesome?
Great blog, keep punching brother!
Jared: Thanks homie. Now, put on the glasses before I beat the #$%! out of you.
I just saw Cool Hand Luke for the first time a few weeks back. great flick
Chris Tobolski: Easily one of the coolest flicks ever. How about the carwash scene?
I thought my friend was lying about it being a good movie. What other movies are out there this young buck can catch up on?
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is a must see. The Great Escape and Bullet are great flicks with Steve McQueen. The Cincinnati Kid with McQueen and Edward G. Robinson is another classic.
You have to see The Hustler. When Jackie Gleason breaks down Paul Newman in their epic pool game ... it's priceless. I guarantee you there is nothing better than Gleason in The Hustler. Newman getting hammered and Gleason slowly breaking him down. He drives Newman insane.
